Here's Why You Should Add Routine Microneedling Sessions to Your Skincare Routine

When you’re young, your skin cells shed and renew themselves every 28 days or so. By the time you hit 50, your skin may take up to 84 days to completely renew itself.

Without a fast cell turnover, your skin starts to look dull as dead cells accumulate on the surface. Other factors that come with aging — such as loss of collagen, elastin, and fat — also thin out and weaken your skin.

Fortunately, we have technologies that help our skin cells turn over and renew themselves at a more youthful rate. Microneedling is one such method. Even if you haven’t yet started to show your age, you may benefit from regular microneedling treatments. If you have acne scars or brown spots on your face, microneedling helps your skin fade them from view.

At D'Allure Medspa, Dr. Frank Batlle and our aesthetics team offer a number of state-of-the-art skin rejuvenation and repair technologies. One of the simplest and most effective is microneedling with the SkinPen®. At our office in Dallas, Texas, we recommend SkinPen along with platelet-rich plasma (PRP).

Why should you add microneedling with PRP into your skincare routine? Following are some of the most compelling reasons.

SkinPen microneedling improves skin health

Whether your skin shows your age, or whether you have other skin issues, the microneedling process turns on your skin’s healing abilities to help improve its look and feel. Microneedling helps resolve issues such as:

The heat-free and chemical-free SkinPen device consists of a single-use, sterile cartridge that contains dozens of extremely thin needles. When your expert treats your skin with SkinPen, these needles create tiny channels in your epidermis and dermis.

These tiny wounds signal your body that it’s time to repair your skin with new collagen, elastin, and other proteins. Over time, as your skin repairs the wound channels, the entire look and feel of your skin improves, too. You literally have new skin, thanks to the accelerated healing process triggered by microneedling.

PRP boosts the SkinPen’s power

When you combine microneedling with PRP, you add additional power to your treatment. We first create the PRP serum by withdrawing a small amount of blood from your arm and swirling it in a centrifuge to separate out the platelets. Platelets are cell fragments that coagulate blood and promote healing.

Next, we microneedle your skin with the SkinPen to create those penetrating wound channels. We then massage the super-powered PRP serum into your skin so that it seeps deeply into your dermis. The PRP provides your body with extra growth factors and proteins that accelerate healing and rebuilding.

Microneedling is natural

Microneedling is an all-natural process at D’Allure Medspa. The SkinPen was the first microneedling device to be cleared by the FDA to treat skin issues, such as aging and scarring. It’s been clinically validated in more than 90 studies.

The SkinPen doesn’t require heat or chemicals to rejuvenate and renew your skin. The mechanical force of the tiny needles is sufficient to trigger your skin’s healing process. And instead of using chemical serums, we boost the healing with your own concentrated platelets.

While you may have some redness after your treatment, that tends to fade within hours or days. You won’t have an adverse reaction to the PRP serum because it’s made from you, not from chemicals.

Microneedling is safe to repeat

Although you may see results after your first session, SkinPen works with your skin’s natural renewing capabilities, so your optimal results may take a few months to realize. Depending on your individual needs, you can stop at one 30-minute session or continue for another 3-5 sessions, leaving about a month between each treatment.

SkinPen stimulates neocollagenesis, which means it helps your skin rebuild itself over weeks to months with new collagen. You decide when you’ve reached your goal.

Once you’re happy with your results, you enter the maintenance phase. Now you only have to book a SkinPen with PRP session every 3-6 months, depending on your goals. In other words, booking a SkinPen session is as easy as getting a haircut. It’s a simple part of your maintenance routine.
