Say Goodbye to Stretch Marks

Say Goodbye to Stretch Marks

Did you know that fall is the perfect time to seek treatments that eliminate stretch marks? If you’re ready to achieve smoother and more evenly-toned skin, cooler weather is a great time to get started on a journey to say goodbye to stretch marks.

If you’re troubled by the appearance of stretch marks, you certainly aren’t alone. These stripey marks are incredibly common and can happen to anyone. But when you partner with the team at D’Allure Medspa in Dallas, Texas, you have access to innovative treatments that can help stretch marks fade into the past and help you feel confident about the appearance of your skin.

What causes stretch marks?

Stretch marks develop when your skin cannot keep pace with the expansion of your body tissue. Pregnancy is a common cause, and when you consider how quickly your body changes to accommodate a growing baby, it’s no surprise that your skin can stretch beyond its limits.

Weight gain can cause stretch marks in both women and men. Puberty is another common cause, as your body goes through growth spurts during the transition into adulthood. People who lift weights sometimes develop stretch marks in areas where they grow muscle quickly.

Your skin is incredibly resilient, and given enough time, it can expand or contract to adapt to your body’s contours. But when something triggers a quick change in your size, your skin is often unable to adapt fast enough.

This causes your skin’s underlying connective tissues to rupture or tear, and creates visible streaks that can appear red, pink, or purple. People with darker skin often develop darker lines when stretch marks occur.

As stretch marks heal, they usually take on a white or silvery tone in people with light skin, and a lighter shade in people with dark skin.

Laser treatments can eliminate stretch marks

D’Allure Medspa proudly offers laser therapy using the Cynosure® ICON™ 1540 platform. This nonablative laser uses fractional light energy to create heat deep within your skin. That heat triggers your body’s natural healing reaction, and new collagen and elastin production spike.

These new tissues smooth and plump the skin, evening out the depressions where stretch marks lie. Treatments can also lessen the coloration of stretch marks over time.

Most people achieve optimal results through a series of 6 treatments, spaced at least 4 months apart to allow tissue remodeling to develop.

Intense pulsed light (IPL) offers another treatment option

IPL is a different form of light therapy. While lasers create concentrated beams of light, IPL uses different wavelengths of light to trigger cellular changes deep within your skin.

Like laser treatments, IPL prompts the body to regenerate collagen and elastin, two of the key components that give your skin structure and tone. It’s also a very effective way to break apart concentrated pigment, which causes the discoloration in stretch marks.

You’ll need a series of treatments to get the best results, and patience is necessary as you wait for your body to adapt between sessions.

Sun protection is critical to maintaining results

Fall is an outstanding time to begin stretch mark treatment because most people spend less time in the sun during the cooler months of the year. Because your treatments are spaced out over time, you can be finished with your stretch mark treatment plan before it’s time to break out the swimsuits next year.

Once you see how well these treatments work to reduce the appearance of your stretch marks, you’ll want to do everything in your power to maintain those results. Embracing a rigorous sun protection habit is key.

We can help you find a great sunscreen that protects against UV exposure, and using it every time you’re out in the sun will go a long way toward keeping your stretch marks in the past.
